How We Can Help Your Student/Advisee

Major/Career Exploration back to top

UMKC Career Services provides career planning assistance. You may refer your student to our office to speak with a career counselor. The career counselor will provide your student confidential assistance to help him or her identify the career assessment(s) that will best help your student make informed decisions regarding their major and career exploration process.

“What Can I Do With This Major?” is another resource many faculty and staff find helpful in their conversations with their students/advisees.

This resource outlines potential career directions, employers and career strategies for more than 60 majors and is a helpful tool in the information gathering stage of students’ career exploration process.

Internship & Job Search Process back to top

CareerExec is UMKC’s online job database. Full and part-time positions, internships, co-ops as well as other positions are posted in this one location. Registration is free to students, alumni, employers, faculty and staff. You are encouraged to create an account for yourself to review current job postings.

Resume and/or curriculum vitae development, cover letter writing information, interviewing tips, mock interviews and appropriate professional business attire are just some of the resources we offer to students and alumni to help them conduct their internship/job search process. We also provide these confidential services to faculty and staff.

On-Campus Recruiting & Career Fairs back to top

During Fall 2007, more than 200 on-campus interviews were coordinated through UMKC Career Services. As a faculty and staff member, we thank you for your support and ask that you continue to encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities to interact with employers. Click here for a list of our Career Fairs and related recruiting events. Click here to review a list of companies who are planning to interview on campus in CareerExec.

Additionally, if you are interested in hosting an employer panel to talk about opportunities in their career field or organization, please contact our office. We would be happy to work with you to coordinate an employer panel for your class.
